Birthday Report

6 10 2004

It was my birthday today, I’m now twenty seven years old. Nic gave me an Electra-XP remote control plane, it is so much fun and very easily to fly, although the first flight resulted in a cracked wing and a damaged rudder - fortunately the kit came with spares.

The second two flights were much more successful and I was pulling off loops and roles with ease - I even managed to land without killing the passengers! All in all it was a great day!

Every now and then some of our friends send us an e-mail with pictures of Bella in them that they managed to snap. These were taken on the 10th of September.

Personally I think she is a cutie

Critical Alert: Vulnerability in ASP.NET Reported

6 10 2004

Microsoft announced today that a vulnerability has been reported in ASP.NET. The underlying issue is that “ASP.NET is failing to perform proper canonicalization of some URLs”. If you are responsible for ASP.NET application security or applications in general I would encourage you to look at the announcement, then at the knowledge base article (887459) which tells you how you can modify your application right now to defend against this issue.

On a personal note, I’d like to thank the ASP.NET team for working so closely with the ASP.NET MVPs and ASPInsiders to let us know what was happening with this vulnerability - you should see a lot of the other MVPs and Insiders posting about this too which means a consistent message is getting out.

Shrinklet 1.0.4.0 Released

6 10 2004

I’ve just uploaded a new version of Shrinklet. No bug fixes in this release but instead a change to use a web-service instead of screen scraping to get the URL from Shrinkster.com (big thanks to Kyle for setting this up).

As a result I was able to eliminate about 50+ lines of code from the application and at the same time make the application immune to any changes on the pages at Shrinkster.com (nice!).

At the moment I expect this to be the final 1.0 release as I start looking at other features to add like automatic updates and integration with the tracking features.

In other news, I’ve uploaded the sources for releases to date up to Darren Neimke’s Project Distributor here. Darren’s site is a distribution point for .NET community projects that he and others are working on.

BizTalkBill and the Melbourne BizTalk User Group

Expression of Interest in starting a BizTalk User Group in Melbourne

Bill Chesnut (a.k.a. BizTalkBill) has started a blog for a proposed Melbourne BizTalk User Group. Bill is a BizTalk MVP so he knows his stuff.

The first post to the blog is an expression of interest page, if you are in Melbourne and are interesting in BizTalk (and enterprise application development in general) I strongly recommend that you get in touch with Bill by sending an e-mail to: interested@melbiz.org.

If I lived in Melbourne I would be there! I wonder if there is a dedicated BizTalk group in Canberra . . .
