Lego.NET

7 10 2005

This is a very cool idea. As a matter of fact its this kind of stuff that keeps me interested in IT. I’ve actually got a box of Lego out in the garage that I am just waiting for Bella to be old enough to play with – just so that I can legitimately “help” her put the pieces together.

Unfortunately Duplo is just too simplistic for most construction tasks

Betsy Aoki

Hey Betsy – it was great to see you at the CodeSlam! Now I know what you do at Microsoft on top of blogging!

P.S. Troy told me a funny story about restaraunt incident!

My wife is awesome!

7 10 2005

Yesterday was my birthday – yay! Anyway, when I arrived home my wife had a surprise for me – an X-BOX! I’ve wanted an X-BOX for years but have always feared what it would do to my spare time (what spare time).

The danger of course is that it will take all my free time – so I am trying to limit myself to playing for a few hours every evening, otherwise I won’t get anything done. Anyway – thanks sweetie!

A few things to remember about TFS installations.

7 10 2005

When you get your system administrators to create the “service” accounts for you remind them that the TFSSETUP account will be used interactively by yourself during the setup process. Sometimes they like to disable certain rights and do fun things like disable terminal services access.

This one bit me and I had to explain why I would be using terminal services.

Team Foundation Server (BETA 3) Install

7 10 2005

Yesterday I installed Team Foundation Server (BETA 3) in a dual server configuration. The installation was very straight-forward – the trick? Follow the TFS Installation Guide to the letter.

The installation guide steps you through ensuring all your pre-requisites are in place and then putting each product in place and verifying its success. The thing about the guide is that it has really been forged in the real world. I know that Rob Caron is listening to feedback out there in the blogosphere and making improvements to the document over time – thats why its such a robust process today.

So a big thanks goes out to Rob for the great work he has done. I know from experience that I would have taken many wrong turns during the installation.
