.Text BlogML Dumper

February 6, 2006

I’ve been wanting to move off .Text to something else for quite a while. Either SUB or dasBlog are looking like the place to be at the moment and fortunately they are both supporters of BlogML – if Community Server supported BlogML I might even consider moving to that.

Anyway – the first step in my migration process is getting my existing data out of the .Text database. To do that I have made a first cut of NotGartnerDump which reads directly from the .Text database and spits out a BlogML file. The source is attached.

Hope its useful for those in the same situation.

    I kiss you.

Thanks. I’m downloading the source now…

Thanks for that Mitch. I started writing a .TextDataProvider (so I could run SUB on top of my existing .Text DB). BlogML is probably the better way to go. Once I get some “free time” (chuckles to self) I will have a go.

  3. I recently converted to dasBlog, very simple to write code to make the XML files required.

Mitch, I’m looking into supporting BlogML for my product Vine Type. I don’t have an existing .Text blog, so I’m interested in getting a real world example of a .Text exported BlogML file to use for import-to-Vine-Type testing. Is there any chance you might share your BlogML file?

    Hi Carl,

I’m not sure what a real world example of .TEXT to Blog ML would look like :) I had to massage it a far bit because of the quality of the .TEXT output.
